Show time

We were on the road early, motorway cruising @ a steady sixty five.
The mind starts ticking over as there's fuck-all to do.
So after looking at the speedo and counting the slow miles,
you start to listen for odd noises...
has something vibrated loose...
is the oil circulating...
start to think I hate fucking motorways, I want to shift my legs and...
I FORGOT MY TICKETS!!!!!!
Fuck it, I'm not going back.
And when we got there the ticket office were cool.
Its not like I'm the only person in the world that forgets their tickets is it...
 Knuckle or S&S?
 Indian?
Shovel? - hmmmm
Exactly
seems it maybe the year of the shov
trumpet engineering
 Larry's engineering
with the new JAP engine
 still in vogue
 split head
fly by wire engineering
the Italian Knuck
 second city customs
big sucker shov

older engine based customs seemed prevalent at the show
or maybe thats just my tunnel vision... haha

Sunday Home

Phew what a fucking hurricane weekend.
We really thought the tents would just not be there when we came back from the bar.
Paul had the adventure this time.
Almost home and he leaves the motorway (and me) and bang has a flat.
Still could it have been a bit different story at 70 mph.

Be careful on the M3, watched an unlucky VW transporter van dude get busted by an un-marked black range Rover Discovery.

some show pics to come

if at first you don't succeed...

some pearls of wisdom

Over the last six months it has seemed to be just one problem after another.
Some due to my lack of experience, a little bad luck
and previous 'professionals' work.

Gearbox, replaced with correct selectors, shifts gears a treat and...
now does not leak!
Misfire, rocker box leak fixed, all due to worn valve seats, which will be replaced next year, but for now the rocker covers have been relieved so the valve collars don't hit the walls.
Hard starting due partly to the above and slight timing issue and buying the software to change ignition settings. The electronic ignition really does perform better than points.
Mid range hesitation due to carb which requires much smaller jets than most people run. Due mainly to the restrictive small 'custom' air filter which also makes her run far too rich too.

And Things that fall off and go bump in the night!

One problem seems harder to fix, - the fucking weather!

cleaning up after the party...

Rocker Leak
The front rocker box started leaking badly at the front.
I found fresh marks the exhaust valve collar hitting the cover wall
and somebody (I think me?) had already relieved the metal.
The valve seats will need to be replaced next time.
If you use that blue gasket sealant check that it hasn't spread on the inside, cos it can get in the oil-ways, I took the head off again and it had, sometimes paranoia pays. Stopped the leak.
That fucker ain't coming loose again
Drain plug loctite(d), ptf taped, drilled and wired (with stainless welding rod, all I had to hand this time)
Rear covered in oil
The rear brake had to be disassembled and rear wheel out
that steam cleaner came in handy, reaches the parts cloths can't.
No Gearbox leak
third time lucky, JB-Weld the 2 leaking studs and a new drive seal
and road tested.
Starts 3rd/4th Kick... WTF????
No prime kicks, lots of gas (this before I did the work! -to drain the oil).
Getting her to start the week before was a fucking nightmare.

Now just got to tweak the carb mid range misfire...haha

on our first date...

reckon she'll start trev...

you want to keep an eye on that oil drain bolt...

pipes of peace... haha

Rays new pipes
sound
 fucking
 awesome
seven and a half litre race tuned engine with go-faster skulls

We went back to Zero Exhaust near Ashford in Kent
to pick up Rays trike yesterday.
The pipes with CNC cut manifolds are guaranteed for 25 years
(if they inspect them once a year - ha).

UPDATE

Engine is a 383 big block +60 th, with stroker crank, full race cam, Edelbrock performer heads, Edelbrock performer inlet manifold, 650 cfm 4 barrel carb, + 200 hp noz and the new zoomie pipes. torqueflight 727 box, jag 2.85:1 diff,
Its 12' 00" long and 6' 8" wide.

Interesting figures...
max engine rpm
(with supercharger + noz)                         8,500 rpm
gearbox output @ 1:0 - 1:0 =                    8,500 rpm
transfer box output @ 1:0 - 1:0  =             8,500 rpm
diff output @ 2:85 - 1:0 =                           2,9824561 rpm at the wheel
33" dia tyre =                                               103.6725" per revolution
X 2,9824561 =                                             309,198.68" pm
=292.8018 mph ???????  Yeeeee Haaaaaaaaa

I think the calculations are right but don't forget to take friction and wind factors so probably take off 50 mph - RAY

so just take off 50...
so it will probably only do 240 mph Ray?...
hahaha

sun is shining

after party tidy up
she's covered in oil after the oil tank drain plug came out, fortunately the engine didn't seize as I'd shut down coming up to a roundabout, Sean found the bolt at the start of the oil slick, Jason was carrying a gallon of morris 20-50 oil and Sumo suggested we use the fresh cut grass on the verge to wipe the oil down
JB-Weld
the gearbox is out again to fix those leaking studs and fit a new main shaft drive seal
Oversize Bush
and fix the selector that has quite a wobble after 30 years

Oil tank Drain Bolt
and drill the bolt so it can be wired, so no more accidents

it has a dual function and supports a third bracket - not a good idea.
(the tank was already painted by this time)
the bracket stops the tank swinging on its two upper mounting bungs where they can fracture.
a little polish and back she goes
battery tray and rear caliper next - that oil got every where
oh, and the front rocker box has decided to leak big time.
